Desktops are more powerful than a good number of laptops and are certainly much cheaper. They are less expensive to buy, upgrade and repair, and will cost you less overall in time in contrast to laptops. Desktops have also been praised for having larger monitors and make watching TV, movies and playing games more comfortable. Some claim that they have better keypads. Overall, the fact that they are not easily portable also serves as their strength. This is because they have a lower risk of theft as opposed to laptops. It is also a bit difficult to lose data from desktops, and this makes them perfect gadget for homes and offices.

A desktop will cost you less than Rs. 20,000 on the lower side and over Rs. 40,000 on the higher side. Tech gurus have bought desktops which they have customized to their preferences, of course at the expense of additional costs (sometimes up to the cost of buying a laptop).

Laptops are supremely stylish, and they are perfect for students or for the business person who is always on the go. They also have many unique features and applications. Unlike desktops, they do not need to be constantly connected to a power cable, as they have batteries making it possible to use them for up to five hours, in most cases. They have fewer cables, and they occupy a smaller space on a table.

There are numerous laptop dealers in India meaning that a laptop shopper is spoilt for choice. Although the prices vary, a laptop is bound to cost you on average between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 35,000 depending on the brand and features. Some models cost as much as Rs. 50,000 on wards. You can get cheap and often second hand laptops for less than Rs. 25,000.

The debate between getting a laptop and a desktop depends entirely on individual preference and the intended use of the machine. The type of computer you buy is a highly personal choice. However, the need to buy a computer from a trusted dealer cannot be over stressed. When buying a new computer (whether a laptop or a desktop), it is important to ensure that it is genuine, and that it comes with a warranty.
